Today, Vantage is announcing support for DigitalOcean cost data, giving customers the ability to track their DigitalOcean infrastructure spend alongside their other cloud providers. Once connected, Vantage automatically imports daily billing data so engineering and finance teams can monitor spending by service, team, region, and Droplet size in Cost Reports.

DigitalOcean is a cloud infrastructure platform that developers and businesses use to build and run applications, with services including Droplet virtual machines, managed databases, Kubernetes, and storage. For teams running workloads on DigitalOcean alongside other cloud providers, its costs are part of the same infrastructure budget but have historically required a separate reporting workflow. Previously, Vantage customers had to review DigitalOcean billing independently or maintain Custom Provider imports to bring those costs into Vantage, making it harder to understand DigitalOcean's contribution to their overall cloud spend.

Now, with the launch of DigitalOcean cost support in Vantage, customers can grant Vantage access to their DigitalOcean account by creating a read-only billing API token, and Vantage will automatically ingest their costs to display alongside their other infrastructure costs. Vantage imports daily costs broken down by products such as Droplets, backups, and snapshots. Customers can compare spending over time, investigate costs by Droplet size and product SKU, and include DigitalOcean in the same Cost Reports they use for their other infrastructure and AI providers.

The DigitalOcean integration is now available to all Vantage customers. To connect, go to the Integrations page in account settings and select DigitalOcean. To learn more, visit the Connecting DigitalOcean documentation.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is being launched today?

Vantage is launching native support for DigitalOcean cost and usage data. Customers can now connect DigitalOcean via a personal access token, enabling automatic ingestion and visibility of DigitalOcean costs in Vantage.

2. Who has access to this integration?

This integration is available to all Vantage customers across all subscription tiers.

3. How much does this integration cost?

There is no additional fee for using the integration. However, DigitalOcean costs will be included in quota tier enforcement. If your DigitalOcean costs push you over your current tier limit, you may be prompted to upgrade. To see more details on pricing, please refer to the Pricing page.

4. How does the integration work?

Vantage uses a DigitalOcean personal access token to retrieve daily billing insights. When configuring, select No expiration, and choose Custom Scopes → Billing with the billing:read permission. After you connect your account, Vantage imports historical costs within your retention window and refreshes cost data through scheduled imports.

5. What permissions are required on the DigitalOcean side?

You must have a team role that can view billing: Owner, Biller, or Billing Viewer to perform the DigitalOcean integration. Member, Modifier, and Resource Viewer cannot access billing and cannot complete setup. DigitalOcean limits API token scopes to that user's team role, so you should create a personal access token with No expiration and Custom Scope Billing (billing:read).

6. What permissions are needed within Vantage?

You must have a Vantage Owner or Integration Owner role to add or remove the DigitalOcean integration.

7. What permissions does Vantage have in my DigitalOcean account?

Vantage can only read billing and usage data from DigitalOcean's Billing Insights endpoint and will never perform any other actions. Vantage can't perform any actions that incur costs.

8. What dimensions can DigitalOcean costs be filtered and grouped by?

DigitalOcean cost data includes the following dimensions:

  • Account (the DigitalOcean Team identifier associated with the charge)
  • Service (the product grouping, such as Droplets or Droplet Backups)
  • Category (the Droplet size, such as s-2vcpu-4gb, when available in the billing description)
  • Region (the DigitalOcean region, when supplied)
  • Charge Type (Usage or Tax)
  • Tag: digital_ocean:sku, containing the original DigitalOcean product SKU.

Category is blank when the billing description does not include a size. Subcategory is not populated.

9. Can I view costs by DigitalOcean project or resource?

Project and individual resource attribution are not supported in the DigitalOcean Billing Insights API.

10. How often does DigitalOcean cost data refresh?

DigitalOcean billing insights update daily based on nightly billing data. Vantage retrieves this data through scheduled imports.

11. How far back will the data go?

Vantage imports historical costs within your account's retention window, starting no earlier than December 1, 2025. Costs before that date are not available through the DigitalOcean Billing Insights API.

12. Are usage quantities and unit prices available?

Usage quantities, unit prices, and usage units are not returned from the DigitalOcean Billing Insights API.

13. What happens if my API token is revoked?

Vantage will no longer be able to retrieve new billing data using that token. Revoking the token does not itself request deletion of previously imported data.
