Today, Vantage is announcing support for OpenRouter cost and usage data, giving customers the ability to track the cost and token usage of models accessed through OpenRouter directly in Vantage. Once connected, Vantage automatically ingests OpenRouter cost and usage data, allowing customers to monitor spend by model and API key, set budgets, detect anomalies, and allocate OpenRouter costs alongside their broader cloud and AI infrastructure.

OpenRouter is a unified interface to more than 500 models across 80+ providers. It routes requests across providers with automatic fallbacks, lets teams set data policies that control which providers receive their prompts, and consolidates billing through prepaid credits that work with any model, or through their own provider keys (BYOK). For many teams, OpenRouter has become a primary way to buy tokens, making it a significant and fast-growing share of an AI budget that can span several billing relationships. Previously, bringing these costs into Vantage required teams to review OpenRouter analytics separately and reconcile them with other provider reports. This made it harder to identify which models and applications were driving spend and to distinguish OpenRouter charges from inference billed directly by upstream providers.

Now, with OpenRouter cost support in Vantage, customers grant Vantage read access via an OpenRouter Management API key, and Vantage automatically retrieves daily costs by model and API key to display alongside their other infrastructure costs. Costs are separated into Credits and Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) categories, helping customers understand how their usage is billed. For example, customers can compare spending across models, investigate changes associated with a particular API key, and include OpenRouter costs in reports covering their broader infrastructure. Where API keys correspond to individual applications or teams, customers can use that detail to identify the source of spending growth, apply Virtual Tags to allocate costs to teams or products, and configure Budgets and Anomaly Detection on OpenRouter spend.

The OpenRouter integration is now available to all Vantage customers. To connect, go to the Integrations page in account settings and select OpenRouter. You can learn more via the OpenRouter section in Vantage's documentation.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is being launched today?

Vantage is launching native support for OpenRouter cost and usage data. Customers can now connect OpenRouter via a Management API key, enabling automatic ingestion and visibility of OpenRouter model costs and token usage by model and API key in Vantage.

2. Who has access to this integration?

The OpenRouter integration is available to all Vantage customers across all subscription tiers.

3. How much does this integration cost?

There is no additional fee for using the integration. However, OpenRouter costs will be included in quota tier enforcement. If your OpenRouter costs push you over your current tier limit, you may be prompted to upgrade. See the Pricing page for details.

4. How does the integration work?

Vantage uses an OpenRouter Management API key to retrieve daily USD costs and token usage from the Analytics API. Enter the key and an account description when connecting OpenRouter. Vantage validates the connection and begins importing costs, with separate Credits and BYOK categories.

5. What permissions are required on the OpenRouter side?

You need an OpenRouter Management API key that can access Analytics. Create the key by opening Settings in OpenRouter and selecting Management Keys. An inference API key cannot access the Analytics endpoints used by this integration.

6. What permissions are needed within Vantage?

You must have a Vantage Owner or Integration Owner role to add or remove the OpenRouter integration.

7. What permissions does Vantage have in my OpenRouter account?

The integration uses the Management API key to retrieve billing and usage information, and reads model pricing from the public catalog. The key’s permissions may extend beyond what Vantage uses; however, Vantage only reads billing and usage data, will never submit inference requests or change your OpenRouter configuration, and will never perform any other actions.

8. What dimensions can OpenRouter costs be filtered and grouped by?

OpenRouter reports support aggregating and filtering on the following dimensions:

  • Account (Description provided at time of integration)
  • Service (OpenRouter model identifier)
  • Category (Credits or BYOK)
  • Resource (API Key ID)
  • Charge Type (Usage)
  • Subcategory (Token Type, e.g., Input Tokens, Cached Input Tokens, Output Tokens, when token-type detail is enabled)
  • Managed AI Tags (normalized model, full model identifier, model provider, API key ID, and token type where available)

9. Can I view usage data for OpenRouter?

Yes. Vantage imports token usage. When token-type detail is enabled, it separates non-cached input, cached input, and output tokens. Reasoning tokens remain within output usage. If both Credits and BYOK have spend, tokens are allocated between those categories in proportion to spend so the total is counted once. Zero-cost-only usage is not imported.

10. Are there Active Resources for OpenRouter?

No, there are no Active Resources to monitor for OpenRouter.

11. How often does OpenRouter data refresh in the Vantage console?

OpenRouter data refreshes daily in the Vantage console.

12. What happens if I remove an OpenRouter integration?

If you remove your OpenRouter integration from Vantage, all associated costs will be removed from the Vantage console. Removal does not revoke the Management API key in OpenRouter.

13. How far back will the data go?

Vantage imports up to six months of historical OpenRouter cost data upon initial connection, subject to the history available from OpenRouter. Ongoing retention follows your Vantage data retention settings.

14. Can I have multiple OpenRouter account integrations?

Yes. You can connect multiple OpenRouter accounts as separate integrations in Vantage, each with its own Management API key and description.

15. How are OpenRouter credits and BYOK costs handled?

Credits includes OpenRouter credit charges and BYOK platform fees. BYOK represents inference spend reported by OpenRouter for your own upstream provider keys. BYOK is not an additional OpenRouter charge. If that usage is also imported through a direct provider integration, exclude the overlapping BYOK costs when combining reports.

16. Does Vantage store prompt or response content?

This cost integration imports aggregate billing and usage metadata. It does not retrieve prompt text or model responses.
