Vantage Launches AWS Database Savings Plans Recommendations and FinOps Agent Support
Identify under-committed database workloads and receive personalized recommendations for AWS Database Savings Plans, with automated purchasing via the Vantage FinOps Agent.

Today, Vantage is launching native support for AWS Database Savings Plans (DBSPs) as cost recommendations in the Vantage console. Customers can now identify under-committed database workloads and receive personalized recommendations for AWS Database Savings Plans. Additionally, Database Savings Plans can be purchased on your behalf by the Vantage FinOps Agent, enabling automated savings and rate optimization.

Announced at AWS re:Invent 2025, Database Savings Plans bring the same flexible commitment model customers use for compute workloads to databases. Unlike older Reserved Instances that tie discounts to specific instance types or engines, DBSPs automatically apply savings across a broad range of managed database services, including Amazon RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB, ElastiCache (Valkey), DocumentDB, Neptune, Keyspaces, Timestream, and AWS Database Migration Service, regardless of instance family, size, engine, or region. This spend-based model delivers up to ~35% cost reduction for serverless workloads and meaningful savings on provisioned database usage, making it easier for AWS customers to reduce database costs without locking into rigid configurations.
Now, Vantage automatically analyzes customer usage across Amazon RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB, ElastiCache (Valkey), DocumentDB, Neptune, Keyspaces, Timestream, and AWS Database Migration Service, surfacing the optimal DBSP configuration, including hourly commitment amount and expected monthly savings. When the Vantage FinOps Agent is enabled, it autonomously evaluates the cost-savings opportunity and will send the recommendation to you through Slack or purchase it on your behalf automatically, based on your FinOps Agent settings. Customers will be able to analyze their coverage of DBSPs using Financial Commitment Reports, as well as dedicated reporting within Vantage Autopilot.
To get started, navigate to the Recommendations tab, Financial Commitment Reports, or visit the FinOps Agent settings to enable automated Database Savings Plans recommendations. Documentation is available in the Recommendations and FinOps Agent sections.
Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is being launched today?
Vantage now supports AWS Database Savings Plans (DBSPs) recommendations as part of its cost optimization features. These recommendations are surfaced in the console and supported by the Vantage FinOps Agent for automated cost savings.
2. Who is the customer?
Any Vantage customer using Amazon RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB, ElastiCache (Valkey), DocumentDB, Neptune, Keyspaces, Timestream, and AWS Database Migration Service who is looking to optimize database spend via Savings Plans.
3. How much does this cost?
There is no additional cost for receiving DBSP recommendations. If you implement recommendations using the FinOps Agent, you are charged 5% of the savings from the commitment.
4. How does it work, or how do I use it?
Vantage analyzes hourly usage patterns over a trailing window, projects coverage scenarios under multiple commitment models, and surfaces the option with the best savings-to-risk ratio. You can configure thresholds for the lookback period and payment option (e.g., no upfront, all upfront) so that recommendations most accurately reflect your usage.
5. Where can I find my DBSPs recommendations?
DBSPs recommendations can be found on the new Recommendations page in the Vantage console. When viewing the Recommendations page, if you have enabled automated Database Savings Plans purchases in your FinOps Agent settings, you will be able to see in-line context of your coverage history through the "View Details" slideout. The slideout provides detailed information about your coverage history and potential savings, and allows you to approve DBSP purchases directly from the slideout.
6. What happens if I already have Savings Plans or Reserved Instances for services covered by DBSPs?
Vantage accounts for existing commitments and only recommends additional commitments where beneficial. It avoids double-counting usage that is already covered.
7. Can I analyze my current coverage using Financial Commitment Reports?
Yes, DBSP-eligible services have been added to Financial Commitment Reports, with applicable filters and groupings, to analyze your eligible commitment for DBSPs and see your coverage and effective savings rate over time.
8. Can I view my recommendation via API?
Yes, your DBSP recommendations are available through the GET /recommendations endpoint.
9. Can I view my recommendations through the Vantage MCP?
Yes, DBSP recommendations will be available for analysis using the Vantage MCP server.
10. If I have already opted in to the FinOps Agent, do I need to do anything to receive DBSP recommendations?
If you have opted in to the agent and have “Enable All” recommendations toggled on in your FinOps Agent settings, then you will be opted in to receiving DBSP recommendations. If you have selected individual recommendations, you will need to toggle on DBSP recommendations.
11. Which AWS database services are covered by DBSP recommendations?
DBSPs cover Amazon RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB, ElastiCache (Valkey), DocumentDB, Neptune, Keyspaces, Timestream, and AWS Database Migration Service.
12. How much in savings can I expect from DBSPs?
DBSPs can deliver up to ~35% cost reduction for serverless workloads and meaningful savings on provisioned database usage.
13. What's the difference between DBSPs and Reserved Instances?
Unlike Reserved Instances that tie discounts to specific instance types or engines, DBSPs automatically apply savings across a broad range of managed database services, regardless of instance family, size, engine, or region.
14. Can I customize the lookback period for recommendations?
On the Autopilot configuration page, you can configure the lookback period and payment options for both Compute Savings Plans and Database Savings Plans (DBSPs). However, the term length setting applies only to Compute Savings Plans, since Database Savings Plans are available only with 1-year terms.
15. Does Vantage reallocate costs of Database Savings Plans to Linked Accounts that consume the discount?
Yes. Vantage automatically reallocates Database Savings Plans costs to linked accounts that consume the discount, using the same cost allocation logic as Compute Savings Plans and Reserved Instances.
When you have amortization enabled on a Cost Report, Database Savings Plan fees are allocated to the linked accounts that benefit from the discount, rather than staying in the account that purchased the commitment. This allocation appears in Cost Reports as the AllocatedAmortizedFee and AllocatedAmortizedDiscount charge types, allowing you to see the commitment costs attributed to the accounts that actually used the discount.
For more information about how Vantage handles committed use cost attribution for linked accounts, see this Committed Use Attribution blog post.
