Leading with AI: MCPs and the FinOps Agent

Vantage MCP logo

2025 marked a major year for AI in FinOps, and Vantage led the charge with multiple enhancements.

Model Context Protocol (MCP) Ecosystem

We became early pioneers in bringing AI agents to FinOps workflows through our MCP servers:

  • April 2025

    Vantage MCP Server

Launched our open-source, local MCP server enabling customers to interact with Vantage through LLM tools like Claude, Cursor, and Goose. This allowed teams to ask natural language questions about cloud costs and perform complex analysis.

  • July 2025

    Remote MCP Server

Launched a fully managed, hosted MCP server, eliminating infrastructure management and enabling OAuth authentication for seamless integration.

  • September 2025

    Instances MCP Server

Extended MCP capabilities to our popular instances.vantage.sh site, making AWS and Azure instance pricing data accessible through AI agents.

  • September 2025

New Documentation Site with AI Assistance

Added a docs MCP and on-site AI assistance, with additional support for Terraform assistance in October.

  • November 2025

    Databricks MCP Catalog Listing

Joined select partners, like Glean and S&P Global, in the Databricks MCP ecosystem, making Vantage accessible directly within Databricks environments.

  • December 2025

    Open-Source Vantage Remote MCP

Made our Remote MCP server open source, providing transparency and enabling customer customization.

The Vantage FinOps Agent

In November, we launched the Vantage FinOps Agent: a first-of-its-kind AI agent that doesn't just answer questions, it actively identifies savings opportunities and takes action on your behalf.

Integrated directly into Slack, the agent can:

  • Proactively monitor your infrastructure for cost optimization opportunities
  • Execute commitment-based purchases (AWS Savings Plans and Reserved Instances) with natural language guidance
  • Provide human-in-the-loop approval workflows with RBAC controls
  • Log all actions to the Vantage Audit Log for complete transparency

This represents a fundamental shift in the FinOps landscape from passive analysis to active, autonomous cost management.

Expanding Multi-Cloud and SaaS Coverage

We continued our mission to provide comprehensive cost visibility across all infrastructure with seven net-new integrations:

  • February 2025

    Grafana Cloud

Added support for Grafana Cloud cost visibility, enabling teams to track observability spending alongside infrastructure costs.

  • March 2025

    ClickHouse Cloud

Launched a ClickHouse Cloud integration, providing cost tracking for analytical database costs.

  • March 2025

    Temporal Cloud

Added Temporal Cloud support, enabling visibility into workflow orchestration platform costs.

  • April 2025

    Twilio

Integrated Twilio cost tracking, helping teams understand communication platform spending patterns.

  • September 2025

    Anthropic

Added Anthropic cost support, extending our AI cost visibility to another major LLM provider.

  • September 2025

    Anyscale

Launched Anyscale integration, providing cost tracking for Ray-based distributed computing workloads.

  • December 2025

    Azure CSP

Added Azure Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) support, enabling partners and resellers to track Azure costs through their CSP agreements.

These integrations bring our total supported platforms to more than 25 providers, reinforcing Vantage's position as the most comprehensive multi-cloud cost management platform. Whether you're running infrastructure on AWS, Azure, or GCP, or using specialized SaaS tools like Databricks, Snowflake, or now Anthropic and Anyscale, Vantage provides unified visibility into all your costs.

Empowering MSPs

Vantage MSP SQL billing rule feature

Released in June, the SQL Billing Rule feature lets MSPs customize billing rules using SQL logic.

We significantly enhanced our Vantage for MSPs capabilities with seven major features throughout 2025. In March, we launched Re-Rating to Public Pricing and Re-Rating Tiered Discounts to automate pricing resets and enable flexible discount structures, along with Remove RI/SP Discounts to give MSPs control over Reserved Instance and Savings Plan benefits.

June brought Custom Billing Rules, allowing partners to define billing logic using SQL for tailored customer agreements. July introduced Enhanced Access Controls for MSPs with RBAC for managed accounts and inherited permissions.

August saw the launch of the MSP Invoicing Private Preview for automated invoice generation and distribution, followed by Currency Management in September to support custom exchange rates for international customers.

Enhanced Cost Analysis and Reporting

The Configurable X Axis feature, released in September, allows customers to visualize Cost Reports by dimensions other than date.

As always, we continued to launch the traditional FinOps and reporting features to improve cost visibility and analysis. Below are some highlights, with many more features released throughout 2025.

  • March 2025

    Nested Virtual Tags

Enabled hierarchical tagging for more sophisticated cost allocation by allowing customers to reference previously defined Virtual Tags within the definition of other Virtual Tags, creating nested structures that align cloud costs with internal taxonomies.

  • April 2025

    Data Export API

Provided programmatic access to export cost data via the API, enabling customers to programmatically fetch CSV exports of Cost Report data for automation, external analysis, and AI model training.

  • May 2025

    Anomaly Detection with Resource Attribution

Enhanced anomaly detection to automatically identify and display the specific resources driving cost anomalies, streamlining the investigation process and reducing time to resolution.

  • August 2025

    Nested Tag Drill Down

Enabled one-click exploration of hierarchical Virtual Tags directly from within Cost Reports, automatically detecting relationships and allowing users to drill down into nested tag structures without manual filter adjustments.

  • September 2025

    PDF Cost Report Exports

Launched PDF exports for Cost Reports, allowing users to generate and share PDF representations of cloud costs and usage with stakeholders outside the Vantage platform, with support for one-time or scheduled exports.

  • September 2025

Configurable X Axis for Cost Reports

Gave customers control over Cost Report visualization by allowing them to choose whether the X axis represents date or another dimension such as service, provider, charge type, or team tag, enabling unique comparative views of cost data.

  • November 2025

    New Cost Recommendations Experience

Redesigned the Cost Recommendations experience with an improved interface, enhanced filtering capabilities, and better organization of recommendations across all cloud providers, making it easier to identify and act on optimization opportunities.

Supporting the FinOps Community

FOCUS Vantage launch

Aligned with our commitment to support the broader FinOps community, we launched two free, publicly available tools: cur.vantage.sh in February 2025, a comprehensive guide for AWS billing codes, and focus.vantage.sh in June 2025, a free tool to convert cost and usage data to the FinOps FOCUS format. We also completed a full rewrite of ec2instances.info in June to bring a faster experience and a more modern codebase.

This commitment was further recognized in August 2025, when we became a FinOps Certified Platform through the FinOps Foundation, validating that Vantage's features align with the FinOps Framework and demonstrating our ongoing investment in the FinOps community.

Looking Ahead: 2026

2025 was a landmark year for Vantage, marked by our leadership in bringing AI to FinOps workflows and our continued expansion of cost visibility across cloud and SaaS providers. As we move into 2026, we're excited to continue pushing the boundaries of what's possible in cloud cost management, with more autonomous capabilities, deeper integrations, and tools that make FinOps accessible to every team.

Thank you to our customers, partners, and community for making this year possible. Here's to an even more innovative 2026!
